The Logan City Parks and Recreation Department is absolutely thrilled to announce the return of the immensely popular "Alive After 5" free community concert series. Now entering its third summer season, this series has quickly become a cherished local tradition, transforming the Carol and Jim Laub Plaza into a vibrant, open-air music venue and the ultimate hub for community spirit every Wednesday night. If you’re looking for the perfect mid-week outing, look no further. The 2026 season promises to be the biggest and best yet, showcasing an eclectic mix of local and regional talent that ensures there’s a sound for every taste. The series kicks off on Wednesday, June 3 , and continues weekly, running all the way through August 26 . All performances take place from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the stunning Laub Plaza, located right in the heart of downtown Logan at 55 N. A Cinematic Journey Through 250 Years: The Library’s Anniversary Film Series

This year marks a monumental milestone: the 250th birthday of America. To honor this Semiquincentennial, your local library is rolling out the red carpet for a special, curated film series designed to explore the triumphs, struggles, and defining moments that have shaped the United States over two and a half centuries. More than just a collection of movies, this series offers a cinematic deep dive into key moments, diverse perspectives, and unforgettable stories from U. S. history, all presented for free in the comfort of our Community Rooms. We invite you to join us on this three-month historical odyssey. The films will generally be shown at 6 PM* on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of June, July, and August. It’s the perfect mid-week cultural event to spark conversation and reflection on the American experience. Our journey begins in June with two powerful films focusing on the nation’s foundations and its greatest challenge. On June 11 , we’ll screen 1776 , a musical retelling of the extraordinary efforts and compromises made by the Founding Fathers as they drafted the Declaration of Independence and birthed a nation. Following this, on June 18 , we pivot to the Civil War with Glory , a stirring and essential portrayal of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the first African American regiments in the Union Army, highlighting themes of courage, equality, and the high cost of freedom. The series continues in July with films exploring resilience and the complex dynamics of the American landscape. Please note a special time change for our first July screening: on July 9 , we will begin at 5 PM for the powerful and recent historical drama, Killers of the Flower Moon . This critically acclaimed film brings a critical perspective to American history, examining the Osage Nation murders in the 1920s and the birth of the FBI. The following week, July 16 , we’ll screen The Grapes of Wrath , John Ford's enduring adaptation of the classic novel that captures the heartbreaking journey of an Oklahoma family displaced by the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression, embodying the American spirit of endurance. We conclude in August by looking at more contemporary challenges and cinematic milestones. On August 13 , we present The Color Purple , Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel, which chronicles the life of an African American woman in the South over forty years, focusing on female relationships and empowerment against systemic prejudice. Our final screening on August 20 is Born on the Fourth of July , an emotionally charged film that explores the profound impact of the Vietnam War and subsequent disillusionment on American veterans and society at large. Kyra is renowned for her delightful, on-the-spot improv. She masterfully interacts with the audience, bringing their requests to life by mixing requested tunes and performing them in genres chosen by the audience—a truly unique and engaging musical experience.Spotlighting Future Stars: The Young Artist Cup The series also provides a platform for emerging local talent through the Young Artist Cup . This annual competition is held for 10th through 12th-grade students who attend or reside within the boundary of Ridgeline and Mountain Crest High Schools, with the competition winners earning the opportunity to perform in the concert series. Over the course of two nights of performances, students compete across five musical categories: Female Vocal, Male Vocal, Piano, String, and Brass/Wind/Percussion. Contestants are encouraged to showcase their range by preparing music from standard classical repertoire, show tunes, and contemporary literature.A Master of Voice: Anna Romney Performing on June 4th, Anna Romney brings an impressive academic and performance background to the Tabernacle stage. She holds a Masters in Vocal Performance from the University of Utah and a Bachelors of Music with an emphasis in vocal performance from Brigham Young University. Anna's experience is wonderfully diverse, spanning from opera to musical theater, straight plays, and dance. She has performed internationally in Italy, across the U.S. in Washington DC and Maine, and extensively throughout her home state of Utah. Favorite roles include Gretel ( Hansel and Gretel ), Musetta ( La bohème ), Meg ( Little Women ), Baker’s Wife ( Into the Woods ), and Susy ( Wait Until Dark ). Currently, as a mother of three young children, Anna is channeling her years of bedtime singing into developing a lullaby album, informed by her diversely acquired repertoire. When she isn't performing, she enjoys sewing her own clothing, biking, and baking everything from pavlova to sourdough bread. Starting with school, church, and family functions, John taught himself to play guitar at age 14. By high school, he was singing at clubs in Logan. His career took off when he auditioned for and secured an agent with National school assemblies, leading to three years of touring 80,000 miles a year, performing in schools, clubs, and even some prisons across the nation. Now retired from his subsequent career as a factory rep, John continues to sing regularly at Deer Cliff Inn during the summer, as well as at the Franklin County fair, rodeo, 24th fireworks, and assisted living performances. At the Tabernacle, he will be performing a Neil Diamond tribute , featuring the very songs he used to sing on tour, and delivering them as if Neil himself was singing.
