One of the region's greatest summer traditions, the Utah State University Alumni Band Concert Series, is returning for another fantastic series of performances at the Daines Concert Hall. T his beloved event is more than just a concert; it is a cherished annual gift from the university, presented free and open to the public, with no tickets or reserved seating required. The history of this celebrated tradition dates back to 1963 when it was first founded by Director of Bands Emeritus Max F. Dalby . It has since become a highly anticipated fixture of the summer calendar . Today, the concerts feature the outstanding Utah State University Alumni Band, drawing from a roster of over 500 accomplished alumni of the band program . These dedicated musicians are not only graduates of the program but many are also professional musicians or music teachers . Their talent is impressive, with some members subbing with the Utah Symphony or playing in other major ensembles like the Orchestra on Temple Square . Director Lane Weaver has noted that the dedication of these alumni is remarkable, as they manage to put together each concert with just one 90-minute rehearsal on the day of the performance .
